Character Questions:
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon, or who is someone they miss the most and why?
Digging deep into the mechanics of FE:A says that the person she builds support with the fastest is Yarne – which make sense as they’re a lot alike. Both are terrified of war and death, and feel a lot of heavy responsibility on their shoulders – Yarne for being the literal last of his kind, and Noire for trying to pull her own weight among so many powerful soldiers. In their supports, they bond over their insecurities and ultimately decide the best way to get over their feathers and get stronger is to protect each other.

The people she misses the most are their parents – despite Tharja’s abusive upbringing, Noire did truly and sincerely love her, and appreciated her father’s efforts to keep her safe whenever he could. They definitely weren’t perfect, but they were all she had.

2. What are they most afraid of and why?
Aside from the fear of death that looms over her constantly, her biggest fear is her own mother. Tharja constantly used magical curses on Noire in an effort to make her stronger, perhaps driven crazy by the loss of her husband and the horrific state of the world. While Noire knows that Tharja loved her, that fear of her has carried over to the Past Tharja she’s met, still cowering around her even after they finally come together as parent and child.

3. What are their emotional, mental, and physical weaknesses and why?
Emotionally – Because she has a negative personality, she keeps herself away from a lot of social gatherings and outings, feeling she would just bring the mood down. This makes her lonely, which makes her more negative, and the cycle repeats. When she does make a friend, she can’t help but feel she’d be a burden to them in some way.
Mentally – Noire knows she’s weak, and knows she can improve – but as to how, that’s where the brain comes to a standstill. A lot of her inherent fear and paranoia comes from her traumatic upbringing, in a world where a demon-like dragon has taken over everything and her abusive mother sacrificed herself to save her daughter.
Physically – Noire is one of the physically weakest members of the Shepherds, being quite thin with not a lot of muscle on there. She and Brady are also the ones who catch illnesses the most, so her immune system isn’t too great either.

4. What discrepancies are there between their inner self (who they feel they are) and their outer self (how they present themselves to others)?
There aren’t that many discrepancies – what you see is what you get, she knows she’s weak, shy, timid, so she comes off as weak, shy, timid… until you meet Other Noire. That’s the Noire that comes when her temper has been pushed, and/or someone treats her with pity. Other Noire will roar and snarl, threatening those that ticked her off, and sometimes even cackle evilly when facing enemies on the field. Most people in the Shepherds treat this as a separate personality, but truthfully Noire does remember what happens and doesn’t always apologize for it – so it’s more than likely she represses a lot of her anger and frustration until she no longer can’t.

5. What would make them happiest and why?
Noire doesn’t smile that often (Not counting Other Noire’s maniacal war face) but her greatest joys come when she can be of use to others, since her negative personality makes her feel so useless all the time. One of her implied futures states she opens a shop that sells Charms Cursed With Happiness, and she spends her free time baking sweets for the Shepherds. So her best joys are things she can make with her own hands and see the happiness in other people’s reactions.

6. What characteristics does someone need to have to be your character's ideal significant other?
In most of Noire’s S Supports, the man that wins her over has done so by treating her with respect instead of pity. Noire KNOWS she’s weak and timid, but despises people who treat her with kid gloves because of this. She wants to become a stronger person, an equal, so she wants her partner to see her and treat her the same way. She wants to fight side by side with them, so they can protect each other instead of just a ‘prince charming protecting a helpless damsel in distress’.

7. Would your character make a sacrifice to save someone else and why or why not?
Noire HATES the idea of sacrifice – mostly because she’s been dealing with the trauma of her family that did so for her sake, and that the war with Grima keeps making that thing happen to others. The idea of leaving behind her friends and family haunts her, and she also is terrified of the idea of someone dying on her. So she would see it as the absolute, last, final resort – and even then, it’d be with great reluctance.

8. What is one thing they would tell their younger self if they had the chance, or if your character is young, what is one thing they would want their older self to remember?
She would tell her younger self that despite her mother Tharja’s harshness and cruelty, she DOES love her. She’ll admit it’s difficult to believe, and that Tharja could have done so many things differently – but in the end, everything Tharja did was for love of her family. She’d also try to reassure her younger self that there can and will be a future, they just have to keep fighting and keep improving. They won’t be alone.

9. When in dire circumstances does your character fight, flee, freeze or fawn and how does that look?
Flee. She’s known as “the fastest to escape in the army” – but this is not out of cowardice. A dead body does nobody any good – and she desperately wants to live to see a better tomorrow and to be a better soldier. As much as she respects those who would sacrifice themselves, she’s seen far too many of that in her lifetime and doesn’t want anyone else to die if they don’t have to. Pride and honor are meaningless things when it comes to life and protecting those you hold dear.

10. Why did your character make the wish they did?
Past Tharja basically used Noire as a lab rat for curses, although it was a desperate attempt to make Noire stronger. The more the war with Grima raged and on and loved ones died all around them, Tharja’s cruelty increased with her frustration. In the present, Noire can see the signs that Present Tharja is about to do down that same path, and is afraid of those consequences. As such, her wish is for Tharja to be a kinder, nicer person so that her child doesn’t have to suffer the same way. (Her child…also being Noire LOOK TIME TRAVEL STUFF IS WEIRD)
